Two weeks elapsed since my last article-wanna-be, I had a lot of things to do but at least, I have not done anything at all. Nothing, really. That’s why I asked Zsolt yesterday to urge me to write my post right now and it seems my idea’s working, I’m back to writing and learning (because every single post I write teaches me more and more) and finally back to music. Let that be a lesson to you: sometimes I need someone who kicks my ass – Mom, I hope you’re reading:).
So I asked Zsolt for an idea, a band to write about and he told me that the band Budapest Bár is on the main page of the Hungary Starts Here site and I thought why not... You surely know some helpful information about them, let me do an other way – as always.

The whole band is about collaboration nowadays. Collaborate with other bands, singers or musicians is a very risky and brave decision; I mean if you play the same sort of music, the same style like Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill did in their all time classic Turn your lights down low it seems to be easy like a singing game but to take the original four members of the Budapest Bár, those traditional gipsy-jazz musicians and put them in the blender with most of the most popular hungarian underground singers and band members to sing songs of our grandparents generation and biggest hungarian classics from the 40’s by hungarian songwriter legends; and a little bit of electronic bass from our age and mix them well together is something like people call risky and brave. But I prefer interesting. And a little crazy as well:).
But they’re successful, they had the first album out last December, and the brand new video (in contribution of Juci Német and Tibor Kiss from my beloved Quimby) is played quite a lot on the programme of hungarian music channels.
Is that success? No, I don’t think it is. Concerts and fanatical audibility can rather mean success. And they have it all. Loving our grandparents taste is not soooo sticky anymore? Yes, that’s what can a good mixture do.
